Lovćen mountain represents the national symbol of Montenegro and its liberty. At 1749 meters above sea level, Lovćen Mountain is also a national park. At one of its peaks the “Lake” peak at an altitude of 1675 meters, there is a mausoleum where Petar II Petrović Njegoš was burried. He was a ruler, a poet, a philosopher, and one of the most important individuals in Montenegrin history.
From the top of the “Lake” peak one can observe half of Montenegro, the Adriatic sea, Skadar lake, and when the wheather conditions are ideal one can even see the Italian coastline. At the bottom of the mountain lies the most famous Montenegrin village – Njeguši, the birthplace of Petrović dinasty which ruled over Montenegro for over 300 years.
On this tour we make a stop in Njeguši village to visit home of a local host. There our guests have the chance to taste homemade products – dried prosciutto and cheese and wine and brandy. Your host will show you the dryer where prosciutto is made and you will learn about traditional process of its making.
The road from Kotor to Lovćen is famous for its 25 serpentines which give this journey a special kind of beauty.
